One of our projects was to model an off-the-shelf chip antenna in FEKO.
The goal of the project was to verify the chip performed according to specs, and to create an accurate FEKO model so that future projects involving the chip could be designed with confidence.
The steps involved included:
- Modeling the chip in FEKO.
- Modeling the chip on a replica of an evaluation board available for purchase.
- Buying that board and measuring its actual performance.
- Comparing the results and modify the model, if needed.
It became evident after the first model that there was a wide difference between what the data sheet claimed and actual measurements.
There was, however, a very good correlation between the measured and modeled results of the chip antenna on the evaluation board, verifying the accuracy of the chip antenna model.
Using the resulting FEKO model of the chip antenna, the performance of the chip antenna on customer board designs and in installations can be predicted with confidence.
